The 40th Anniversary Celebration Ceremony cum Open Day

During the ceremony, two officiating guests, Mr. Jasper Tsang Yok Sing, GBS, JP, President of the Legislative Council, and Mr. Wong Kam Choi, MH, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sik Sik Yuen, delivered speeches. It was followed by sharing of the titbits of the past four decades of Ho Fung College, and presentation of Long Service Awards. Mr. Lee Tat Luen, Chairman of the Incorporated Management Committee and Supervisor of Ho Fung College, presided at the opening ceremony and gave a thank-you speech.

After the ceremony, the guests also cut the ribbon to signal the commemorative and enjoyable opening of the Fitness Training & Assessment Centre.

It was a lively party joined by 50 tables of special guests, teachers, parents, alumni, students and guests from the community.

The Third Staff Meeting (afternoon)

Teachers were divided into two groups:

  1. A team of 40 teachers attended a workshop on assessing students’ literacy in Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics.
  2. Another team of 21 teachers visited Si Yuan School of the Precious Blood to understand the thoughts and values of primary five and primary six students, observe how iPad could help primary students improve their writing and speaking skills, appreciate how the school trained students’ generic skills through ‘thematic learning weeks’.

Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary and Upper Primary Students (2015)

Exchange programme for S. 2 students – Geological Landforms and Ecological Conservation in Danxia Mountain of Shaoguan

The exchange tour was aimed at giving S. 2 students a chance to know the history, culture and geography of Shaoguan, as well as giving them a chance to visit the local traditional architecture.

Mainland Exchange Programme for Senior Secondary School Students (2015)

Exchange programme for S. 5 students –

The Tour of Culture and Water Conservancy Construction of the Three Gorges in Wuhan and Yichang of Hubei Province

The exchange tour was aimed at giving S. 5 students a chance to know the development of the cultural history, industry and water conservancy projects of Hubei Province. Students could enhance their understanding of our country and strengthen their multi-perspective analytic skills through discussion and reflection by consolidating the classroom knowledge, personal experience and observation.

The 40th Cross-country Run cum Walkathon

It was an event co-organised by the School, the PTA, the Alumni Association and the Students’ Association. The fund raised was divided into halves to subsidise students’ extra-curriculum activities and the 40th Anniversary celebrating activities.

The Fifth Sik Sik Yuen Joint School Sports Day

The event was held at Shing Mun Valley Sports Ground in Tsuen Wan.

Parents’ Day

Report cards were delivered on the occasion. Parents could better understand the students’ performance at school through conversation with the class teachers. Parents could also talk to the school social worker or teachers from the School Discipline Section and the Student Counselling Section by appointment. In addition, statistics of different forms and subjects were shown at the School Hall for parents’ perusal.

 

Furthermore, a seminar on S3 Students’ elective selection was held, briefing the participants on the NSS curriculum, the School’s S. 4 curriculum structure for 2015/16, individual electives, the learning requirements of individual subjects, the subject selection procedures and arrangement, etc.

Part of the proceeds earned in the event were used to the 40th anniversary celebration activities.

The 40th Anniversary Musical

The musical was held in Tsuen Wan Town Hall. It was a performance consisting of different artistic elements and showing the talents of our students in dancing, music, singing and drama. The event served as a perfect full stop for the commemorative 40th celebration activities.

2015

Hong Kong Odyssey of the Mind Programme (OMP) 2015

OMP was co-organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Education Bureau. The School won three awards in Technical Problem <Experiencing Technical Difficulties>, namely the overall championship of Division II, the best style and the most creative awards. The School also represented Hong Kong to attend the World Finals in the United States held between 8 May and 25 May.

The Fifth Staff Development Day (afternoon)

It was divided into two sessions, i.e. how teachers made use of resources provided by HKEdcity to facilitate professional development and how teachers used fitness equipment properly and safely.

Awarded the Second Runner-up in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

The School represented Hong Kong to participate in the annual OMP World Finals held in the United States and was awarded the second runner-up.

Ms. Wong Yin Ling and Ms. Ho Man Ling were elected as the parent manager and the alternate parent manager respectively.

The 36th Speech Day

It was held at the School Hall. Associate Professor. Ricky Kwok Y K, Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) at the University of Hong Kong officiated at the ceremony. He presented the certificates and gave an encouraging speech.

Low Carbon Campus - Food Waste Recycling Education Activity

In line with ‘SSY – Food Waste Recycling Education Program’, the School organised a number of planting activities in which food waste was used and visits to organic farms. The School facilitated organic farming by, among others, designating planting areas for raising mushroom and potatoes, and setting up food waste compost bins and vermi-composters. These activities were aimed at cultivating students’ interest in planting, so that they could learn to integrate into and appreciate nature. This could help raise their environmental awareness and eventually become a new generation which protects the environment and lives in green.

The Sixth Staff Development Day

It was divided into two sessions: annual review in the morning and a joint school activity in the afternoon. Dr Raymond Chan Won Shing, Clinical psychologist, gave a speech on “Teachers’ psychosocial and health”. Nearly 120 teachers from Tsuen Wan Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College, Shatin Pui Ying College and the School were divided into groups to exchange opinions.

Release of the Fourth HKDSE results

163 students of the School took part in the fourth HKDSE this year.

134 or 82.2% of them met the ‘3322’ requirement for university admission.

159 or 97.5% of them attained level 2 or above in five subjects (including Chinese Language and English Language).

The results of the best performing students with two or more subjects attaining 5** or 5* are as follows:

Top Senior Secondary Students Award Scheme, Senior Secondary Science Camp 2015

Organiser: China Association for Science and Technology and Education Ministry of the PRC

Co-organiser: Hong Kong Student Activity Committee

Venue: Tongji University in Shanghai

There were 10 S. 3 and S.4 students of the School participating in the event. They visited Deep Sea Exploration Pavilion of Tongji University, Shanghai Natural History Museum, Shanghai Automotive Museum, etc. Students also attended scientific and technological lectures and participated in various cultural activities, in which they experienced building of water channels, water treatment devices, etc.

Parents’ Day was held at the School Hall in the afternoon. Principal, discipline teachers and counselling teachers briefed the parents about the School and issues that students needed to pay attention to Orientation activities were held from 24 August to 26 August.

Announcement of JUPAS results

There were 70.4% of students of the School admitted to degree and sub-degree programmes in the eight local universities via JUPUS. Among them, 48.4% were offered local government-funded bachelor’s degree programmes, with 15 students in HKU, 15 students in CUHK and 11 students in HKUST. There were also 3.7 % studying in local self-financed degree programmes, 30.4% local sub-degree programmes, and 8.7% overseas degree programmes.
