This year, our English Week really offered a great variety of activities and events to cater for all tastes and ages. Let’s take a closer look at what was done on each day.

Public Speaking Competition (Junior Division and Senior Division)

The week kicked off on Friday, 21st February with a public speaking competition open to all forms, which was divided into two divisions: S1-3 and S4-5. The judges all agreed that this year there was tough competition, with especially impressive speakers even by our youngest students in S1. The high standard of their oral delivery made the job of adjudication quite tricky and we know these speakers have a bright future ahead of them.

S1 Trivia Quiz and S2 Fable Skit Competition

Then on Monday morning, we had the school hall assembly beginning with the S1 Trivia Quiz. The Quiz involved a mixture of participants: class representatives on the stage with buzzers at the ready, all the S1 students in the audience and our special guests from Ho Shun Primary School. In the S2 Fable Skit Competition, the five S2 English classes acted out on stage vying for the admiration of the audience and judges alike in their interpretations of the classic Aesop’s Fable “The Lion & the Mouse”. What a hectic morning!

English Book Fair

On Monday and Tuesday, there was also an English book fair held on the ground floor with a range of fiction and non-fiction titles available for purchase. Students got a chance to visit the fair during their lessons, at recess, lunchtime and after school.

S4 Advertisement Design Competition and S5 Public Speaking Competition

On Wednesday morning, there was another hall assembly, but this time it was the chance for the senior forms to shine. The S4 classes battled it out on stage entertaining the crowd with their creativity and comic elements in the Advertisement Design Competition. Next, it was the S5 students whose eloquence and oration skills were put to the test in the Public Speaking Competition. This experience will no doubt stand them in good stead in their future endeavours after they graduate next year.

S3 Inter-class Competition - Emoji Combo

On Thursday, representatives from the S3 English groups competed against each other in a light-hearted way in the Inter-class Competition - Emoji Combo. To win the competition, students had to demonstrate a deep knowledge of a wide variety of emoticons.
